Rescuing old, unwanted trash and making it new again.
A collaborative side project by designers Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman, Quotes on Shit is a collection of discarded objects that were repainted using solid colors and given a voice through witty but vulgar words. In their own words:
“We feel bad for this abandoned and rejected shit, so we want to rescue them and breathe new life into them by giving them a voice with words. We want to turn old shit into new shit, and give them a second chance to be loved and find a new home.“
“You’re an ashole” An old ashtray we rescued from Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
“You just used me” Rejection in love and friendship is the worst, it sucks to be used + then discarded. We rescued these old book ends from The Salvation Army in The East Village.
We found this poor old cookie jar in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He’s a bit upset about his empty stomach.
People constantly collect, buy, steal, trade, use, and throw things away. Have you ever wondered what happens to all these trash after they wind up in the garbage, streets, landfills, or even junk shops? Luckily, some of them ended up in the hands of creative geniuses such as Walsh and Goodman.
I no longer have the energy for meaningless friendships, forced interactions or unnecessary conversations. A tired dog statue we rescued in Chelsea, NYC.
“I used to matter” Sad how quickly things we buy and love lose importance and become obsolete. This is an old VHS tape we rescued from the East Village in NYC.
Let me fit in? I think we are all looking to be loved or accepted in some way…. even though for each of us that manifests very differently. An old shoe form we rescued from the East Village in NYC.
If you love one of the artworks and want one for yourself, let them know why through their Instagram feeds @timothygoodman or @jessicawalsh. They’ll be giving them away to lucky, random individuals. You may also send the artists your old, unwanted things at quotesonshit@gmail.com so they can make it look new again.
