You! Be Informed! #0055 – FWA’s Best Websites of 2013

The big Internet award portal, Favorite Website Awards (FWA) recently announced the 2013 Site of the Year and People’s Choice Award winners. With 365 entries after a year of daily “Site of the Day” award, FWA  finally named its best websites for 2013. “Pharrell Williams – 24 Hours of Happy” won the 2013 Site of the Year Award while “Adidas –  Nitrocharge your game” got the People’s Choice Award.

The interactive web experience described as the “world’s first 24-hour music video” was chosen by 66 international judges to be awarded as 2013 Site of the Year. Developed by a full force of creative agencies namely We are from L.AICONOCLAST INTERACTIVEi am OTHER and anonymous, the site’s unique execution of combining music, video and web design gave birth to an extraordinary web experience. We once featured Happy as one of our “awesome web design of the week” posts and we are just delighted the site got the recognition.

Here is what Pharrell Williams has to say  about the recognition:

When I wrote this song for Despicable Me 2, I never imagined it would have a 24 hour video, amazing interactive website or win the FWA SOTY. This is an incredible honor. I am super grateful for the creative vision of the “Happy” team—We Are From LA, Iconoclast and i am OTHER—for creating a project that truly seems like it’s inspiring happiness all over the world.” - Pharrell Williams via FWA

On the other hand, after an international public voting for 12 finalists, the Adidas campaign called “Nitrocharge Your Game” got the People’s Choice Award for 2013. The flashy web experience is a combination of Flash and HTML5 created by DDB and Tribal Amsterdam, and produced by Media Monks. The website aimed to promote Adidas’ latest football boot. What keeps awesome is the combination of interactive video and images with flashy effects plus the innovative approach of using an integration  with smartphones for it’s “game” feature.

I’m completely flabbergasted, I did not expect to win at all against competition this strong. It has been a passionate project for us, with a lot of setbacks we had to overcome.
